Prepare for your pets!

In the USA a whopping 66% of households have pets and unfortunately they are caught up in the same situations as humans when disasters strike. Planning ahead for their well being and safety is key not only for their health but for your piece of mind if you should find your family in a natural disaster, fire or any other situation what may drive you from your home. Here are a few steps you can take now to ensure their safe keeping:
1) Place a sign on all exterior doors alerting First Responders to the number of pets inside. Disasters don't always strike when you're at home.
2) Have an evacuation plan for your pets. Make sure you have carriers or leases close to your exits so you can grab them in a minutes notice.
3) Find a hotel, relative or friend who can accommodate you and your pets if needed in advance. If you can't find accommodations together find a shelter or veterinarian who can keep your pets.
4) Prepare a "Grab and Go" bag for your pets. Some items to include may be water & food bowls, dry/canned food, toys or warm blanket.
Pets can be a part of our family, save yourself the heart ache of losing a pet by planning ahead.
